Finding The Right Nanny For Your Child

Hiring a nanny requires time, patience and knowledge. Although it may seem like a simple thing to do, consider what a nanny will provide to your child. In most cases, they will provide health care, education, rearing, and even teaching your child morals. It requires something more than selecting any person on the street to watch your child. This isn’t a babysitter, but a person to welcome into your family to do one of the most important things for your family:

raising your child.

For most people, a nanny can be a true benefit. Finding someone that is trained in providing these attributes to your child will give your child a step up from the rest. If you currently are sending your child to daycare, you may be spending just as much as a nanny would cost you and getting mediocre care for your child. For many reasons, a nanny is an investment into your child’s future as well as your future.

In this ebook, you will learn who a nanny is, what they can provide to you and your child, how to hire one and how to be confident in your decision. Hiring a nanny is a huge responsibility. Yet, it doesn’t have to be one that you don’t do well. Just who is a nanny anyway? Many people don’t realize what a nanny can provide or what their true job is. In fact, this will be one of the steps you go through when hiring a nanny to care for your child.

What you want them to provide must be defined ahead of time. In that, you have to know what should be provided and what a standard nanny’s job is. The definition of a nanny is someone that is employed to take care of children. This generally happens within the child’s home. Some nannies are live in while others will come and go on a daily basis at various hours. Nannies can be hired on a full time basis or they may even work part time. In most cases, they are responsible for the day to day care of your child including their established routines.

What To Expect From Your Nanny
There are several things that you should expect from your nanny. Don’t assume that they will provide this, though. The fact is that every aspect of hiring a nanny means spelling out what you require.

A nanny should:
• Respect family decisions and provide services around them.
• Promote the development of the child in all aspects including emotional, physical, intellectual and social developments. Hold true to high standards of professional conduct with children and families.
• Continue their education to provide the latest resources and skills to the child.

The role of a nanny includes things like being educators, nutritionists, activity coordinators, researchers, friends, and much more. They do more than any babysitter could provide as their job is not to keep the child out of trouble for a few hours, but for their life. It is up to you to decide who you hire as a nanny for your family. There is no official seal of approval that nannies have.

Yet, it is very strongly recommended that you take the time to find out about their experience and their education. Most nannies will have special education under their belt for child care. These skills should be evident in the way that they work with children, in the decisions that they make and on paper from the school itself. A nanny with special child care skills is a person that has dedicated their education to becoming a child care specialist, something you definitely want to have in your home. It is strongly recommended that you consider the educational background of the nanny before you hire them to care for your child.

Even someone that has had their own children may not know all that they should about the educational and social development of a child. Many colleges offer this type of education and there are also a number of nanny institutes that are a tool to consider as well. As you will see, there are a number of different ways to hire a nanny, but this is one aspect that should never go without detailed research. You have to ask these questions:

What makes this person qualified to raise your child?
What skills do they possess that make them capable, willing, and educationally developed to handle this huge responsibility?

If you can’t answer that question about a nanny you are considering, consider someone else for the job.

Shopping In France: Paris and Bordeaux

France offers you an enormous choice of goods, but the quintessential French purchase is clothing, especially designer fashions. If you’re on a budget, window shop at the great fashion houses to get a feel of what you want. Then head for the markets and budget shops to do your actual shopping.

Shopping In Paris

Paris is divided into quarters or arrondissements, each with its own shopping opportunities. Marais is the place for elegance, St-Germain for international fashion brands and Montmartre is dripping with romance.

Paris is of course home to the large French department stores, les grands magasins such as Galeries Lafayette and Printemps and you can spend whole days browsing them. But the sheer joy of shopping in Paris comes from visiting the galleries or passages, the 19th-century glass-roofed shopping arcades that just ooze charm and transform rainy days into shopping adventures.

Bear in mind that most stores in Paris close on Sundays which gives you the opportunity to explore one of the city’s many flea markets.

Shopping In Bordeaux

Few people outside Europe realise what a shopper’s paradise Bordeaux truly is. There are some of the world’s most popular brand names on parade here: Cartier, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Mont Blanc, Christian Lacroix, Rolex and Tartine et Chocolat.

The pinnacle of shopping in Bordeaux is the Golden Triangle of the Allées de Tourny, the Cours de l’Intendance and the Cours Clemenceau. This triangle contains the Place des Grands-Hommes, home to the city’s most prestigious shops vending everything from foodstuffs the latest fashions.

You don’t have to shell out your last dollar on upscale designer shops, however. There are plenty of cheaper French chain stores here for you to choose from along with countless locally-owned boutiques where you can get something special at a reasonable price.

And of course don’t forget the wine. The whole Bordeaux region offer their local vintages for sale by the case and at very favorable prices.

Motor Home through the Australian Outback

Australia is a great place to RV for two reasons. First, motor homes are the preferred method of travel across the great distances. But also, Australia is rich in natural beauty and wildlife that you won’t see anywhere else. Article Driving cross country in an RV is an old tradition in Australia. With its wide open spaces, vast star-filled skies, and gorgeous natural beauty, Australia is a motor home owner’s dream.

So, why not head down under and rent a motor home for your adventure? Here’s a taste of what Australia has to offer.

- Wide Open Spaces. Try the Outback! There are places where you won’t see another human being, and you can park your motor home anywhere you please.

From Sydney on the east coast, to Perth on the west coast, it’s 2,500 miles. That’s only a few hundred miles less than a trip from New York to Los Angeles! Out in the western part of Australia, there are 100-mile stretches with no services. No wonder it’s such an RV-friendly place!

The weather is mild all year round. On the coasts, the temperatures are moderate, although it heats up once you get into the interior, with temperatures reaching well over 100 degrees in the daytime.

- Natural Beauty. The outback is unlike anything you’ll ever see anywhere else. Australia’s beaches are also world renowned for their pristine beauty.

- RV Services. The land down under is probably the world’s most motor home friendly country. You can rent RVs just about anywhere, and drop them off at a location you didn’t start from.

There are lots of sights to see, and once you’re there you can explore on your own, but here are some of the big ones.

Ayer’s Rock, or Uluru, is one of the natural wonders of the world. It’s just what you might imagine it to be - a giant rock. It is the second largest rock in the world (second only to Australia’s Mt. Augustus) at 1,000 feet high, 5 miles around, and 1.5 miles below the Earth’s surface!

It is also a magnetic rock, which means it has strange effects on electronics. The natives believe that it is a giant generator, with a current of energy flowing out to the entire world. For RVers, it is a great area to camp, in view of the rock where you can see it change colors as the sun moves across the sky.

Ayer’s Rock is located 250 miles southwest of Alice Springs and is part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

There are some pretty desolate spots on Australia’s west coast, but Shark Bay is not one of them. It is a recognized World Heritage site, full of colorful natural beauty and endangered species. Shark Bay is an interesting place, too, because of the fossils that have been found there, dating from the beginning of life on Earth.

Shark Bay is full of great areas to see, including Hamelin Pool, where the water is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom. There are big sandy beaches, and you can see dolphins at a beach named Monkey Mia.

It may seem vast and empty, but actually the Outback is rich in sights to see. There are national parks and historic sights everywhere.

- Mungo National Park, located in The Willandra Lakes heritage area, has the “Wall of China.” This one isn’t man-made, but made by thousands of years of wind. It is made of clay and sand, and the formations caused by the wind and erosion are fantastic.

- Kinchega National Park is an area where there is water - sometimes! The Darling River winds through this area of red sand dunes and dry lakes. There is an abundance of uniquely Australian wildlife, including exotic birds like emus and others like kangaroos.

- Sturt National Park is an arid land in the Strzelecki desert, where you’ll be surprised to find among the crags and dunes a wetlands area and forest. There are also white sands and red dunes for hiking.

In every part of Australia there are national parks worth seeing, and since motor homes are the most popular way to travel, you’ll find plenty of places to stay. The state of New South Wales alone has more diversity than almost anywhere else, with land features like deserts, swamps, coasts, forests and grasslands.

If you’re an RVer, consider the land down under.

Preparing Your Home for that Holiday Dinner - Get the House Ready

Don’t leave everything to the last minute. It’s all about planning. Start early, make a list and go over it often. It keeps your head clear, and you won’t be second guessing yourself, and wondering what you’ve forgotten.

Clean your house ahead of time. You don’t want to be vacuuming the day of the big event.

Set your table as much as a day before; it takes time to do this properly, and this way you won’t be rushed.

Crowd control. Try and keep the numbers low; feeding 25 people is a job for a caterer, dinner for 8-10 on the other hand is manageable.

Organize your home to avoid unnecessary crowding in a particular area. For instance, don’t set the bar up in the middle of the kitchen. Have the bar in one area, convenient to a cooler of ice, and the nibble table in another area. You may also want to set up small groupings of seating in different places so that your guests don’t all collect in one spot.

Set up an area where the kids can go and relax and be kids.

Table talk. Buffets are best if you are using more than one dinner table, otherwise it gets a little cumbersome passing food around. If you want a family style setting, try having more than one serving dish of most items.

I prefer to let my guests sit where they please, but some common rules for designating seating are:

  • Use name cards, encouraging people to sit beside someone different.
  • Never seat spouses together.
  • Unless they’d rather be on their own, include the children as opposed to having a “kid’s table”.Table Setting 101 - a quick guide to setting the table.
  • Forks go on the left, and knives (blades facing in), and spoons on the right.
  • Dessert fork and spoon go up on the top of the plate.
  • Glasses go to the right and the bread and butter plate to the left.Special touches. Sometimes adding those extra touches can make a memorable gathering. Try serving a special drink in honor of the day. It also makes your job easier; you can have a pitcher already made in the fridge ready to pour.Have some sort of novelty at the dinner table, such as holiday crackers. Everyone puts on the goofy hats, take turns reading their fortune and then shows off their prize. At Christmas I like to make a table gift exchange. It’s easy to do, just go to the local discount store, buy some random small gifts, wrap them and attach a long ribbon to each one. Place them in a basket in the middle of the table (this also doubles as a centerpiece). Everyone grabs a ribbon and selects a prize. The real fun is all of the table chatter as guests trade amongst themselves for the best gift.

What’s in the center of the table? A centerpiece is important, but it doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. Here are some simple ideas:

  • Stagger some pillar candles and wrap the bottoms with seasonal vine from the craft store.
  • Have a large bowl with a candle and surrounded by fruit or baby gourds.
  • Clean out a small pumpkin and place a bouquet of flowers inside. Create mini candle holders by using baby pumpkins, add a candle and flowers.
